I came upon this book downloading it, largely, by mistake. As a happily married man of over 50 years, I hardly fit the profile of one who would find this topic interesting. NOT having read it would have been the big mistake. The characters, especially, the heroine, Maggie, became incredibly real. Don’t miss this one.

I'm not sure how I found this book. I usually read more romantic books, but I'm glad I found this one. This book is about Maggie and how she finds herself getting divorced after a few decades with the same man. Her love and her whole life has been about him and her kids. With the kids gone and now her husband gone, she is a mess. That part of the book was hard to read. It dragged on a bit. Maggie thought she might get him back (why she would want someone back that flat out told her he didn't want her???) But after a while and moving around, meeting new people, she finally finds who she can be. I don't want to say more than that because I want you to read all the gritty stuff for yourself. I will say, for this romantic, it ends well. Great HEA. This is my first by this author and I'll look for more.
Loved this coming-of-a-certain-age novel about a middle aged woman finding herself post-divorce. The writing is lively and the characters, especially the heroine Maggie, well-drawn. There’s real depth to it and humor as well. Highly recommend it.
This novel is about a middle-aged woman who for years has defined herself as a devoted wife and mother, and after the children leave home, her husband unexpectedly walks out on her. After a period of denial and self-pity, she slowly begins to redefine herself as a single woman. I found the story to be inspirational and uplifting, with an ending that this reader did not really expect. Overall, a well-written and enjoyable book.
I love Camille Pagan's books. Her characters are real to life and very relatable.
Maggie was already dealing with an empty nest when her husband told her he was leaving and filing for divorce. She felt as if her whole world had crumbled. "I had lost myself...." For decades her life revolved around her identity as a wife and mother. Women are a combination of identities personal identity and self-worth are the ones that hold the rest together. This is Maggie's story of the road to recovery and her journey back to personal identity and feeling good about herself.
Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties was a brilliant novel about hurt, hope and healing. Fifty-three year old Maggie is shocked when her husband, Adam, suddenly divorces her after twenty-eight years of marriage. Maggies deal with it at first in the only way she knows how, drinking wine heavily and rehashing everything with her best friend, Gita. And then Maggie meets Jean, a lone wolf traveling to Italy to paint, after divorcing her own husband. Jean offers Maggie a fresh start and a new way to heal. But Adam isn't quite done with Maggie yet.

I'm not divorced or in my fifties, but I connected with this book emotionally. Maybe because I've been married for 22 years and can see how this could happen, but I sure hope that it won't. It does give me hope that if something tragic were to happen, I could also turn out just fine. The characters were relatable, realistic and likable - all of them, even the ex! I believe that I would make some of the same choices Maggie did if I was in the situation. I was thrilled with the ending - it wasn't what would be the norm in most books lately.

Perpetually anxious, she’s also accumulated a list of semi-reasonable fears falling air conditioners, the IRS, identity theft, skydiving, and airbag recalls. My Thoughts From the beginning of Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties, I felt connected to Maggie. Not because the events in her life were similar to mine. Her life was quite different from mine, but there was one common theme that feeling of invisibility that somehow descends on a woman after a certain age. Especially if she has devoted her life to taking care of others. That feeling can be a common thread in the lives of wives and mothers.

To me, however, it seemed surprising that Maggie had not even thought of the possibility that her husband might leave her. The clues were there his unavailability, the way he didn’t really listen, and how there was something missing. But with the passage of time, connections change, and it would be easy to chalk it all up to getting older.

What happens to a woman after an unexpected separation? Does she sink into a depression? Does she start drinking too much? Does she begin to probe into all of her life choices and connections? Maggie did all of those things…and then more. Slowly she begins to feel like herself again. Like the woman she hadn’t seen since her thirties.

But when something unexpected happens…will she continue on this course, or will she flail about, trying to decide if she needs to rethink her chosen path?

When I started this novel, I expected something light and predictable, but happily, there were many emotional issues to explore. By the end, I was deeply invested in what might happen for Maggie next. 5 stars.
This book was such a good experience it was for me. Getting abandoned by my spouse is my #1 fear. I have nightmares about this at least once a week. Reading this book -- which has the best title EVER -- was a nice exercise in the fantasy of what-if. I got to actually lose a husband and feel out all the repercussions, safely. And you know what -- now I think if it actually did happen, I'd be fine in the end, just like the protagonist. It's not often that fiction solves an actually problem for me, but it did this time.
